You made it! You graduated college, and you’re ready to embrace the world with open arms! However, the real journey just begins. Life is full of surprises, and you still have to do some things to achieve what you want.

Once you graduate college, it’s time to create your first post-college resume. Still, that may be difficult, as you’re a fresh graduate, and you probably don’t have the job experience you’d like either.

  1. List Your Education Details

You went to school a lot. During college years, only you knew how much effort you have to put into studying and passing exams. So, all these merits you’ve achieved need to be appreciated.

The education details have to be listed in your resume. You have to list everything, including your school and the year you’ve obtained the degree. In addition, you should mention any honors, if you’ve had any, as well as your grade point average if it’s a high one.

  1. Write Your Career Objective

This field should be filled only if you are sure about your career goals. If you know what you want to do, or you apply for a specific job that you can work on the objective to, you should do it.

As mentioned, don’t do this if you are not yet sure. If you do this, it may only worsen the situation rather than help it, especially if you write something general and vague. In other words, avoid the “Seeking a promising career within a successful company” text.

  1. Pay Attention to the Wording

As expected, in the resume you can’t talk like you would to a long-life friend. You need to use active verbs and language. For instance, you’d better use “collaborate” instead of “worked on”.

Unless you’re actually involved in a project in the present, make sure to use the past tense. In case you really are involved in a project currently, you can use the present tense, but don’t use any verb ending in “ing”, as they are usually passive.

Did you take any specifically tailored courses to your career that weren’t included in your specified major? In that case, you’d better list them, because a possible employer may be interested in seeing your experiences. They can be listed in the education section of the resume.

Don’t just write the resume and call it quits – the document will most likely require some editing. As such, make sure there is no typo – it could cost you a job.
